All Things Metadata Discussed July 25 at Metadata Madness East

The benefits of asset management for content, automation of workflows, data integration across business units, and the latest in consumer analytics will all be discussed July 25 at Metadata Madness East, the popular mid-year industry review of all things metadata for the media and entertainment sector.

Produced by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA), and co-located with the first-ever Microsoft Media & Entertainment Day, at the Microsoft Technology Center (MTC) on Eighth Avenue in New York City, the theme for this year’s Metadata Madness East event will be “Data, Analytics and AI.”

Here’s a quick rundown of what attendees can expect at the half-day, afternoon event:

• Starting at 2 p.m., the event will open with opening remarks from Guy Finley, executive director of MESA, Mary Yurkovic, director of MESA’s Smart Content Council, and Jonathan Huberman, CEO of Ooyala.

• Digging right into the meat of the program, Steve Fastook, SVP of technical and commercial operations for CNBC, will present the keynote “Forward Thinking – The Maturity Stage of AI in M&E,” where he’ll discuss the dramatic challenges media and entertainment executives are facing across business units, and how new technologies like artificial intelligence are helping to confront those challenges, better leveraging metadata and enhancing workflows.

• You’ve likely been hearing a lot about blockchain (the use of a distributed to maintain a continuously growing list of assets), and the Metadata Madness event will see a high-end panel of executives offering their thoughts, in the discussion “Blockchain’s Relevance and Impact on Security.” Eric Iverson, CIO for Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Alanna Gombert, GM of the IAB Tech Lab, and VP of technology and ad operations for the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB); and Zach Lebeau, CEO and founder of SingularDTV, will be on hand to discuss.

• Mike Petro, director of value engineering for Ooyala, will give attendees insights into how managing metadata across multiple workstreams can help avoid content overload for viewers, in the session “Why Metadata is King of Content.”

• Closing the Metadata Madness event is the panel “An Inconvenient Data Truth: The Challenge of Integrating Data Across All Business Units,” which has experts sharing how adoption of standardized metadata across content creators, agencies and brand owners can help stave off a potential “digital global warming.”

Sally Hubbard, a metadata expert and consultant with SAH Consulting, will moderate a discussion with James Cooney, director of systems engineering for Pearson, Kristy Ramsammy, director of digital asset operations for Conde Nast, Ken Romano, product director for the Associated Press, and Dan Rosenberg, associate director of asset management for Time Inc. Studios.
