Sr. Manager, Security Architect

Dolby’s IP security practices are a key part of our overall IP protection strategy. The Senior Manager of Security Architect will help shape our IP security activities, and provide technical advice in order to advance our licensing model for the future. This is a highly collaborative hybrid role, blending the business needs and the controls necessary to protect our investments and revenue streams. This manager will ensure alignment with other technical teams, business groups, sales and legal groups; and actively represent the IP Protection function as a key contributor within internal working groups.

This role will contribute significantly to the definition, strategy, development, and execution of IP security across several businesses. This position offers the chance to make a fundamental contribution to the way Dolby deploys its Intellectual Property. The role is based in San Francisco reporting to the Director of IP Protection and Enforcement Programs.

Responsibilities:

Investigate, prototype and evaluate new architectures for protecting Dolby’s Intellectual Property and technologies, focusing on the best balance between cost/complexity/security/flexibility, making these solutions feasible and effective for different platforms and architectures

Work with external security partners, lead the technical investigation and analysis of their security solutions, and present the results to Dolby management

Define robustness rules and engage directly with silicon partners to understand their current IP Protection mechanisms, ensuring they fulfill Dolby’s requirements. Help and guide them to define/enforce/expand such protection schemes for new technologies

Maintain a threat and risk model. Define test strategies used to verify the level of robustness of implementations is met

Provide technical expertise and support during audits and IP Protection investigations. Support legal teams with technical expertise for contract review

Provide internal & external trainings related to technical aspects of IP protection, helping to educate the ecosystem on the importance of effective measures for avoiding illicit usage of intellectual properties

This position will require regular interaction with Dolby’s IP Protection personnel, engineering, business groups, sales and operations teams as well as third party audit firms and our supply chain customers

Requirements:

Understanding of technology in the context of intellectual property and licensing models

Broad knowledge of IP protection and content security landscape
Key technologies and players in the market
Mechanisms and techniques to protect both hardware and software IPs.
Knowledge of specific methods for protecting video and audio codecs and, post processing is preferred
Experience in defining SOC architecture is a plus

In-depth knowledge of the hardware and software mechanisms available in embedded and consumer devices:
Software protection techniques and countermeasures against reverse engineering
Knowledge of cryptographic concepts
Trusted Execution Environment, TrustZone and Virtualization
Watermarking and tracking techniques
Provisioning of security assets
Mechanisms used to differentiate hardware IC’s and hardware security cores

Capable of reviewing and assessing a given security mechanism to identify weaknesses and associated risks
Knowledge of methodologies for formal analyses and device testing

Experience with IP security development and deployment in embedded devices, consumer products and professional products

Adept at dealing with customers during different stages of the licensing and deployment process

Key to success is the ability to navigate internal and external partners, build relationships and trust in a team environment

Persuasive communication, listening and negotiation skills in order to articulate ideas and thoughts clearly through various means, including written and oral communications with all levels of the organization

Domestic and international travel required (20 – 30%)

MS/BS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent with at least 8 years industry experience
