WHY BOX NEEDS YOU
As the leader for our Kubernetes SRE team, you and your team will own Box’s Kubernetes platform, powering our PaaS solution. This system is the heart of our business and the key platform for Box’s services, running at a scale that exceeds most companies and estimated to grow significantly in the next couple of years. This manager will have the opportunity to lead this environment through an exciting (but interesting) phase of it’s lifecycle as we transform to meet our Hybrid cloud strategy — emphasizing availability, performance and quality. We’re looking for someone that combines technical breadth and depth with strong management chops to successfully define and deliver on the roadmap.
We’re a diverse mix of backgrounds and skillsets and each of us makes a big difference every day. We need someone who knows how to run systems at scale and is passionate about using software to run them rather than shell prompts. In particular we’re looking for a principled leader who can grow the team and has equal parts EQ and IQ and a desire to continually learn in both domains.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Lead a world-class Kubernetes SRE team, building a culture of inclusion, accountability and shared purpose
Drive continual improvements for availability, performance, observability, quality and cost effectiveness
Lead transformation from an on-prem Kubernetes platform to a hybrid cloud environment
Align with key internal partners to deliver a PaaS platform that delivers a simplified developer experience
Own Security and Compliance domains for the Kubernetes platform
WHO YOU ARE
You have experience running distributed systems in production at scale and have managed systems with software
You’ve been a hands-on leader and value collaboration
You’re detail-oriented and curious and when you’re faced with a black box – you open it up and figure out how it works
You effectively prioritize your time and you can communicate easily in any medium – email, slack, phone, face-to-face – and to any audience from a senior engineer to a vice president
You value facilitating the growth of your team. You ensure that their careers progress and that the team culture is collaborative and inclusive.
You want to bring all these talents to work with other forward-thinking engineers and power a world-wide storage platform!
Preferred Skills:
You have led an Site Reliability Engineering team for atleast 5 years with demonstrated growth.
You have experience in one of the public cloud providers (AWS, GCP or Azure)
Ideally, experience running/leading Kubernetes, PaaS or IaaS cloud platforms.
You have hands on SRE experience and are still comfortable troubleshooting/scripting on a Linux system
Experience with common DevOps/SRE tools such as Configuration, Alerting, Observability
You are passionate about solving infrastructure problems with software
You have materially improved the operability of the systems you’ve run – through monitoring, service level management, lifecycle management, performance tuning, and documentation
