MESA Europe to host Cloud Solutions Workshop in London

19th May, 2-5.30 p.m, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Southampton Row, London, WC1B 4BH

IntroductionREGISTRATION CLOSED

MESA Europe has revealed details of the next in its series of highly successful industry workshops.  This time the attention will focus on Cloud Based Solutions, embracing everything from workflows and asset management to security and storage.

The workshop format provides a platform for content owners and distributors, together  with their suppliers to share
experiences, raise concerns and frustrations, and highlight areas where industry efficiencies may be gained.sponsors

“From our recent workshops it is clear that cost savings can be made through improved production workflows and better asset management” said Jim Bottoms, executive Director of MESA Europe.

“This message is as important for the big international organisations as it is for the smaller scale operators and niche content suppliers and distributors” he added.

The Cloud is increasingly being touted as a solution that will help with the above and could potentially assist in providing better access to a broader range of assets that are accrued and created throughout the life of a title. Whether it is scripts and production notes, promotional clips and posters, supporting metadata or the title itself, in all its localised versions and file formats, finding an improved path to the management and integration of all this content, in a totally secure environment is something that virtually everyone involved will see benefit from.

The Cloud Solutions Workshop will enable content owners and distributors, together with their supply partners to ask questions, learn from the experiences of others and highlight areas of concern moving forwards.

“All of the previous workshops point to a real need for a cost versus benefit analysis in order to help companies
evaluate the improvements to asset management and production workflows that can be accrued. This is something we plan to
dig into during the workshop with case study examples” said David Millar, Communications Director at MESA Europe.

Once again space at the workshop will be limited and with both the previous workshops oversubscribed
interested parties are encouraged to register their interest early.

In this introductory presentation to this afternoon’s workshop, our speaker will share some of his observations on the advantages and concerns relating networked storage from a cable operator’s perspective. Key among the areas to be covered will be managing subscribers recordings on the cloud, complying with local market and regulatory requirements and managing content security.

Open Floor Discussion to set Workshop Objectives & Review Priorities

Round Table Working Group 1: Using the Cloud

Tables, consisting of up to 10 industry participants, across a range of different interest groups, will be invited to discuss their views on the use of the cloud when it comes to entertainment content. What are seen as the main advantages overall and are there any areas of concern that still discourage its use?

Foo Fighters Create Hit In The Cloud With Box
Jade McQueen, Managing Director, Media & Entertainment, Box

Over eight different cities across the U.S., the Foo Fighters wrote and recorded an album which became the 8 episode docu-series, Sonic Highways.  The band and the production team used technology to tell the stories of legendary recording studios and capture the artists who record there.  Our second speaker of the afternoon talks us through how those involved in creating the Foo Fighters title achieved it and how they overcame the logistical issues along the way.

Round Table Working Group 2: Cloud Based Workflows

As our previous speaker highlighted the cloud can be an invaluable tool during the creative process offering a broad range of advantages. In our second round table discussion our participants will be invited to discuss their experiences
when using the cloud, including highlighting where has it been used to good effect and those areas where perhaps
it is not an ideal solution.

Film rendering has always been computer intensive, but it has become even more so thanks to the increased scale of studio  productions and the need to service concurrent projects. Increasingly, major movie releases also contain some major computer  generated (CG) elements, which stretches resources still further. In this next session, we hear about some of the challenges this  presents and look at routes available to overcome these obstacles.

Round Table Working Group 3: Other Areas of Focus

Drawing on the earlier round table discussions the third working session will focus on drilling down in more detail
on the three main areas in the creation and distribution process where cloud based solutions are seen as offering
a distinct advantage over alternative approaches and the three main areas where the cloud offering falls short.
