Mike Hurst, Exactuals

Mike Hurst,
Chief Executive Officer,
Exactuals

Mike Hurst is a software industry veteran and CEO/Co-founder of Exactuals, a provider of innovative solutions for complex payments and metadata issues in the entertainment industry.

Exactuals first established itself as a SaaS leader in the film/TV payments space, securing long-term commercial agreements with Screen Actors Guild, Entertainment Partners, and other top unions, studios, and payroll companies. Exactuals raised more than $23 million in funding prior to being acquired by City National Bank in August where it will continue its work as a wholly owned subsidiary of the leading bank in entertainment.

More recently, Exactuals has expanded into music, introducing RAI, a software development kit and open API allowing music companies to programmatically improve song metadata to meet digital distribution standards. RAI uses machine learning to optimize and enhance music metadata for record labels, publishing companies, performance rights organizations (PROs), and digital service providers (DSPs) to ensure works are registered properly for royalty attribution.

Hurst incubated the Exactuals business model over the course of his time as a Sloan Fellow at Stanford Graduate School of Business, with guidance from some of Silicon Valley’s most trusted advisors. As a Stanford StartX mentor since 2012, Hurst also finds tremendous fulfillment working with early-stage StartX portfolio companies as they plan and implement their fundraising and enterprise sales strategies.
