MESA’s Content Localisation Council Reflects on Strikes, Eyes 2024

MESA’s Content Localisation Council reflected on the impact of the recent strikes and looked forward to 2024 and beyond, during a 14th November meeting at DNEG’s offices in the heart of London.

Hosted by Prime Focus Technologies the two-hour meeting brought together 30-plus executives from across the localisation industry to share takeaways from IBC and MIPCOM and to look ahead to the agenda of the ITS: Localisation event which will be taking place in London on 29th February.

The event — which was also hosted online — took place in DNEG’s screening room and attendees were treated to a viewing of the visual effects and animation studio’s showreel, which showcased blockbusters the company has provided special effects for.

Attendees reflected on the impact of the recent strikes on the localisation sector, and the topic of AI’s impact on the industry was front of mind, with those attending noting both solutions and challenges in equal measures. While there was much to discuss and debate, the meeting also provided a welcome chance to see industry friends and colleagues and to network.

MESA’s Content Localisation Council has been running for eight years and is comprised of executives who represent major content owners, language service providers and technologies companies. The Council’s mission: “To support the content localisation industry by providing a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and open discussion.

To promote the role localisation plays in ensuring content can reach global audiences and to keep all members of the group informed of industry developments, including the role of technology, legislative changes and the introduction of any standards or best practice procedures.”
