Eluvio CEO Brings ‘Just-In-Time’ Supply Chain Upgrade to Nov. 5th Smart Content Summit EU

There’s a new — and novel — supply chain approach today for streaming and servicing film and TV catalogue content direct from their source assets, for sales, licensing, and ticketed direct exhibition.

Dubbed “just-in-time,” this approach — recently used to stream private, global exhibitions of Bill & Ted Face the Music and The Wolf of Snow Hollow in 4K to browsers, connected TVS and mobile platforms — eliminates the need of delivery intermediaries, and comes with individualised watermarking, DRM.

At the 5th November Smart Content Summit EU, Michelle Munson, CEO and co-founder of open high-performance software network firm Eluvio, will share how this blockchain-backed delivery option via the company’s Eluvio Content Fabric technology allows content providers to manage and distribute video directly from source as VOD and live streaming, without using separate transcoding, content distribution, or aggregation services.

“In these challenging times, the media and entertainment industry is actively looking for new innovations to drive efficiency and scale,” Munson said. “Innovations in video delivery, programmable media, and blockchain have created new ways for content companies to directly embed and control authorisation, avails, rights, and monetisation — without relying on third-party intermediaries.

“As part of this session, I look forward to sharing recent examples of real-world ticketed movie screenings, which rely on blockchain ledgers and smart contacts, to manage and enforce viewing rights and create new opportunities for personalisation and monetisation.”

Eluvio — which was recently awarded a 2020 Engineering Excellence Award by the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) for its Eluvio Content Fabric technology — sees ongoing potential for this “just-in-time” concept, with delivery of content at low latency, featuring an embedded blockchain ledger, contract-backed content, and metadata that enables personalisation, rights control and further monetisation.

“We are thrilled to be able to share this first of a kind approach to just-in-time premium content; the asset, its metadata, and its rights are one, and direct-to-consumable is possible without the latency, friction, and costs of the past,” Munson said.

Smart Content Summit EU is produced by MESA and MESA Europe, in association with CDSA, HITS and the Smart Content Council, which meets regularly to share best practices, evaluate emerging technologies and collaborate to accelerate the pace of transformation in our industry.
