Tape Ark to Talk Cloud Migration at Smart Content Summit

For the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, making its content accessible while also preserving it for future generations hasn’t been the easiest thing, considering how much video content is trapped on both decaying tape media and obsolete infrastructure.

Enter tape-to-cloud migration specialist Tape Ark, and partner Seagate Lyve Data Services, who brought their modern tech for preserving, accessing and sharing legacy content, beyond traditional storage.

Tape Ark’s Kyle Evans, director of sales, will speak on how his company safely restored more than 2,800 hours (350 TB) of preservation-level video files for Rock Hall’s Library of Archives, and ingested the content into the public cloud, March 4 at the Smart Content Summit in L.A.

“Attendees can expect a step-by-step overview of how to safely migrate their valuable content libraries from ageing tape infrastructure to modern cloud storage platforms, demonstrated by Tape Ark’s recent tape-to-cloud migration project for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Evans said of his breakout session, “We Will Rock You: Preserving the Richest History of Rock and Roll Footage for Future Generations.” “They’ll learn the risks of doing nothing and a best-practice approach for a successful migration. Suitable for anyone considering a hybrid or cloud storage model for their digital content.”

Tape Ark and Seagate are freeing up the world’s most extensive collection of data to the cloud, and they’re doing so by innovating every step of the tape-to-cloud ingest process, creting a safe, secure and unique technology stack, one that scales and efficiently migrates, at speed, legacy tape data.

The Smart Hollywood Summit is sponsored by Spherex, Tape Ark and Seagate, Whip Media Group, EIDR, BeBanjo, and Sony, and produced by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA) and the Smart Content Council, which meets regularly to share best practices, evaluate emerging technologies and collaborate to accelerate the pace of transformation in our industry.
