International CPS Keynote to Discuss Impact of Hackers on M&E

When you think “hacker,” the idea of a rogue, computer-savvy kid may first pop into mind.

But according to cybersecurity expert Ralph Echemendia — known as “The Ethical Hacker” and serves as CEO of online security firm Seguru — it’s also governments, political parties and nefarious players (who need little computer experience) using new tools using hacking as a tool to manipulate perceptions, take any message and make it “real” on the internet.

At the Feb. 23 International Content Protection Summit in Barcelona, Echemendia will share how these aren’t typical intelligence-agency acts, nor coordinated efforts that come at an exorbitant cost. Instead, it’s a completely new tool for the masses, where individual perceptions, not machines, are the target.

His keynote address — “Securing the Future of Media & Entertainment” — will examine the impact of technology on the cybersecurity space, the challenges that exist as the hacker community migrates their strategies, and how that impacts the way media and entertainment creates and distributes content.

Media and entertainment is accelerating its digital transformation on the back of a range of new technologies — including 5G, blockchain, ATSC 3.0 and more — companies and engineers are already looking to protect these emerging systems. There are new threats and vulnerabilities that increased interactivity and interconnectivity between operating systems produce, and understanding what is “real” is harder than ever.

The International Cybersecurity & Content Protection Summit is sponsored by the Trusted Partner Network and SHIFT, produced by the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA) in cooperation with ShowStoppers, and in association with Digital Production Partnership (DPP) and the Hollywood IT Society (HITS).

The event is under the direction of the CDSA Board of Directors and content advisors representing Amazon Studios, Adobe, Paramount, BBC Studios, NBC/Universal, Lionsgate, WarnerMedia, Amblin Entertainment, Legendary Pictures, and Lego Group. The International Cybersecurity & Content Protection Summit will look ahead at the challenges facing the security community in 2020 and beyond.
