MarkLogic Webinar to Offer Ideas on Data Governance

It’s no secret that mining value from data is an entertainment industry priority, and knowing where your data comes from — and how to monetize it for every screen — requires data governance. That’s something many companies in Hollywood companies are still having trouble figuring out.

On Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. PST, the minds behind enterprise NoSQL database company MarkLogic will offer valuable insights into how bringing data of all kinds (metadata, product data, usage and more) together can add velocity to your initiatives, in the webinar “You’re Doing it Wrong! Why Data Governance Currently Sucks and What You Can Do About It.”

Tim Padilla, director of consulting, west for MarkLogic, will share how, first with his work at Warner Bros., and then as a consultant to the industry, he’s helped organizations take a different approach and deliver value using data governance. Padilla will be joined by Matt Turner, CSO for media, and Michael Malgeri, principal technologist, in a presentation that will expand on the presentation of the same name that MarkLogic delivered https://www.mesalliance.org/2019/10/11/hits-fall-effective-data-governance-is-crucial-for-entertainment-companies-marklogic-says/ at the recent HITS Fall event.

IT initiatives are “still too difficult [and] take too much time to return value,” while “legacy/rigid technology is not always the right tool for the job,” Padilla said at HITS Fall. And technology “either increases or decreases the need for organizational governance and work and other things that go into it,” he said.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if there was another way?” he said. “You’re either going to adapt or you’re going to die.. That’s a generalized quote, but it’s true and the way that you adapt is you use your data” effectively from many different places, bring it all together and use it to “enhance your experiences,” he said.

The webinar will cover the multiple traps awaiting companies as they try to put data into action, and how leaders in entertainment have turned the tables on traditional data governance, delivering true value at scale with effective data governance.
