VFX Supervisor Jon Rosenthal, CG Supervisor Steve Graves, and Head of Production Matthew Hunt have recently joined the Los Angeles studio. Additionally, Technicolor’s Archie Donato has been promoted to the role of VFX Supervisor. Earlier in the year, the group also expanded into motion graphics and titling, appointing Levi Ahmu as head of this team.
VFX Supervisor Jon Rosenthal joins Technicolor after nearly 20 years in the industry. He started his VFX career as a 3D artist at Zoic, Gigapix and Stargate Studios, before transitioning into a supervising role at the latter five years ago. He has been nominated for multiple awards over his career including two Emmy nominations, two VES Award nominations and one OFTA Television Award nominations.
Most recently, he served as the Creative Services Supervisor for The Happytime Murders, where he oversaw the work of multiple VFX, Comp, and CG Supervisors located in Vancouver, Atlanta, and LA. The project itself was noteworthy because director/producer Brian Henson wanted to accomplish what had never been done in puppet movies before: showing the illusive puppet legs instead of hiding them behind objects or framing them out. And for this, he turned to VFX. Some of Jon’s additional credits include acclaimed series Parenthood, Mob City, The Walking Dead, and Heroes, to name a few. Jon joins a team of eight VFX supervisors based in Los Angeles.
CG Supervisor Steve Graves has been working in the Visual Effects industry for nearly 20 years, contributing to notable titles including Doom Patrol, Titans, Sleepy Hollow, Limitless and The Flash. A VES winner and multiple Emmy, HPA and VES nominee, he started his career in television, before moving on to features, commercials and game cinematics. After working on a variety of projects, he realized his passion lay in episodic television, and since 2012, most of his career has followed in that direction.
His role as Senior CG Artist on the first season of Doom Patrol was one of his first 4k resolution projects, requiring an extreme level of detail. This experience pushed him as an artist to focus on even the smallest CG elements in a shot.
Head of Production Matthew Hunt joins Technicolor after nearly two decades in gaming and visual effects. In 2000, he started his career at Activision, playing an integral role in launching several iconic AAA titles that are still relevant today, including Rome: Total War, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and the first Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure.
After his time at Activision, Matthew spent several years focusing on the marketing side of gaming, including three years as Senior Creative Producer at Ant Farm. In that time, he led the launch campaigns for multiple Call of Duty titles including the record-breaking launch campaign for Destiny. For the last three years, Matthew has been working full-time in VFX, winning the 2017 Primetime Emmy for ‘Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role’ for the Gotham episode “Heavydirtysoul”. He was nominated again in the same category in 2018 (Gotham) and 2019 (Catch-22).
Head of Design Levi Ahmu joined Technicolor in early 2019 to establish a motion graphics and titling group. Over the course of the year, his team has tripled in size and has provided standout graphics to projects including the upcoming feature Black and Blue, Dollface for Hulu and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series for Disney+. Prior to his role at Technicolor, Ahmu has worked as a creative director and graphics supervisor to deliver projects across almost every digital medium. His designs can be found in AAA game titles, music videos, VFX heavy commercials, and dozens of episodic titles for clients like EA, Sony, Activision, and TV shows Fringe, Minority Report, and Marvel’s Agents of Shield, to list a few.
The addition of these creatives continues the evolution of Technicolor VFX as a global creative VFX studio.
