Technicolor’s Wi-Fi XL Geared Toward Network Service Providers

Technicolor has made available Wi-Fi XL solution for network service providers (NSPs) worldwide, offering them the ability to offer improved in-home wireless performance and multi-user gigabit services to consumers.

The company’s gateways and extenders developed for the Wi-Fi XL solution support the latest Wi-Fi 6 and EasyMesh standards, enabling NSPs to address in-home connectivity challenges.

“While operators have made a lot of progress in bringing gigabit speeds to the home, NSPs are looking for ways to ensure that both speed and connectivity are maintained and propagated throughout the home via in-home Wi-Fi networks,” says Ashwani Saigal, VP of Technicolor’s Broadband Product Unit. “A growing number of devices — including phones, TVs, and new IoT equipment — are all trying to connect to the wireless network all the time. This is creating dense connectivity environments that generate throughput issues. Increasingly, end users are turning to their NSPs to address these issues. Technicolor’s Wi-Fi XL solution represents the latest evolution in our ongoing mission to meet this market need.

“The specially developed gateways and extenders support Technicolor’s HOMEWARE — based on the latest Open WRT release — and RDK-B middleware environments. This means that NSPs will be able to benefit from the innovations that are already emerging from Technicolor’s HERO Partnership Program that makes the connected home in general and wireless connectivity in particular, a new playground for technology companies and developers.”

The Wi-Fi XL offering complements the work that Technicolor is developing with Technicolor’s HERO Partners Program, and makes available advanced software solutions from partners that ]select the most appropriate access point and frequency bands, in order to reduce interference and detect wireless issues, in order to automatically resolve them.

“Technicolor also conducts dedicated customer product testing and benchmarking for the Wi-Fi XL solution in our Wi-Fi test houses which allows for real-life and on-demand simulations and measures to optimize product design, costs and performance directly associated with Wi-Fi antenna design and placement,” Saigal added.

Technicolor’s Wi-Fi XL solution also includes multi-gigabit speed home gateways that support fiber and DOCSIS 3.1 access technologies which can be deployed with Wi-Fi extenders offered by Technicolor; a tri-band extender providing dedicated 5Ghz backhaul connectivity to the gateway; and the ability to prioritize data traffic across the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands.
