AI, Watermarking, DRM Among Content Protection Summit Showcase Topics

Some of the industry’s top security minds will be on hand Dec. 5 at the Content Delivery & Security Association’s (CDSA) annual Content Protection Summit (CPS) in Marina del Rey, Calif., offering their insights into everything from AI security to the latest advances in watermarking.

Here’s a look at what’s on deck during the “Innovation and Technology Showcases” portion of the CPS program (to register for CPS, click here):

• “Watchers on the Wall: How to Safely Share Content with Wildlings on a Multi-Tenant Platform” has Alex Nauda, CTO of SHIFT and Screeners.com, looking at the challenges faced by a web software vendor as it’s helped content owners share high-value assets on the open internet, and how it monitors for raiders.

• “Are you Ready to Handle a Security Emergency?” sees a collection of top minds at Convergent Risks and Alex Pickering, global content security director for BBC Studios, sharing a fictitious security emergency scenario with attendees, who will then vote on the possible courses of action using a mobile app. A pros and cons debate will follow after the audience has decided courses of action. Janice Pearson, VP of global content protection, Ben Schofield, app and cloud digital media consultant, and Mathew Gilliat-Smith, consultant and advisor, will represent Convergent Risks.

• “Optimize your Content Value Chain with Distribution Watermarking” will have Harrie Tholen, VP of sales for NAGRA anti-piracy and NexGuard watermarking, will share insights into how content owners can uncover the prevalent patterns of piracy and optimize their content distribution strategies, by embedding a “distributor mark” in offline assets and linear TV feeds and subsequently monitoring the internet for pirated files and streams.

• “SPEKE-ing of Content Protection & DRM” features Ian McPherson, senior partner, development manager for media and entertainment for Amazon Web Services, looking at the Secure Packager and Encoder Key Exchange (SPEKE) open REST API specification for authentication and key exchange between DRM platforms and encryptors (transcoders and packagers), one that aims to reduce the number of integration points and accelerate time-to-market for customers for on-premises, hybrid, and cloud video workflows.

• “Vulnerability Management – From B Movie to Blockbuster” includes Rahim Jina, COO and co-founder of Edgescan, talking about problems associated with the vulnerability management status quo, and offering ideas on how to shift your vulnerability management in new ways, keeping in mind today’s technology stack and development methodologies.

• “Using AI to Boost Content Protection and Maximize Income” will see Eyal Arad, CEO and co-founder of Videocites, describing ways in which new video search technology (based on machine learning) is used to significantly boost content rights protection across all social and video platforms, and ensuring that income and revenue streams are fully optimized.

• “Limitless Creativity (Secure and on Schedule) in the Cloud” has Joel Sloss, senior program manager for Microsoft Azure, offering a 2019 update on the exploration of secure content workflows in the cloud, where, by using solutions such as Media Composer, artists, editors, and IT alike can take advantage of near limitless scale and creative process control.

The 2018 CDSA Content Protection Summit is presented by SafeStream, and sponsored by EdgeScan, Microsoft Azure, LiveTiles, Aspera, Amazon Web Services, Convergent Risks, Dolby, NAGRA, EIDR, the Trusted Partner Network (TPN), Videocites, Human-i-t, Telesoft and Bob Gold and Associates and is produced by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA) in association with CDSA, the Hollywood IT Society (HITS), Smart Content Council and Women in Technology Hollywood (WiTH).
