Tech Companies Tout Netflix Post Inclusion

For Van Bedient, senior strategic development manager for Adobe, the inclusion of his company’s products in Netflix’s new Post Technology Alliance (PTA) is “a mark of quality, service, and support.”

“The creatives behind Netflix’s original content are truly at the top of their game,” Bedient wrote in a blog post announcing the inclusion of Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Adobe After Effects CC in the PTA.

“Through the Post Technology Alliance, we’re excited to support the creative community and align with one of the biggest innovators in entertainment today to build optimized post-production workflows together.”

Netflix — which announced the formation of the PTA during the IBC Show in Amsterdam — said the PTA program is a collaboration with both software and hardware developers, marking via a logo program that certain products align with Netflix’s post-production workflows and specs, specifically those post-production tools that have been used to create and deliver Netflix Original shows. Products that meet the testing grade can include the Netflix PTA logo on their web site and marketing materials, and will have access to Netflix’s APIs for integration with their tools.

“At Netflix, empowering our creative partners is incredibly important and the Post Technology Alliance will build a more seamless experience from production through post-production,” said Chris Fetner, director of post partnerships and integrations for Netflix, in a statement. “Products that bear the logo are committed to better interoperability and faster innovation cycles, which will allow artists to focus their energy on what matters most — the storytelling.”

Participation is in Netflix’s PTA program is free, and at launch the program consists of four categories: creative editorial, color grading, cameras and Interoperable Mastering Format (IMF) packaging. Products from Adobe, Avid, Sony, Canon, MTI Film, Panasonic and nearly a dozen other companies have been earned the Netflix PTA nod thus far.

“At Panasonic, we are committed to meeting the needs of the production industry, now and in the future,” said Sivashankar Kuppusamy, marketing manager for broadcast and pro AV, EMEA, for Panasonic, in an announcement. Panasonic has four cameras that are Netflix PTA certified. “Not only do our cameras future proof cinematic work, but they improve efficiency, from better color workflows to reduced file sizes and even filming in more difficult lighting situations thanks to our unique Dual Native ISO feature. We share Netflix’s commitment to putting technology in the hands of creative people allowing them to concentrate on telling the story with ease.”

Additionally, Canon saw four of its cinema EOS cameras selected as Netflix PTA products. “Netflix’s Post Technology Alliance program aligns perfectly with Canon’s steadfast commitment to providing state-of-the-art, high-quality products and service and support programs,” said Kazuto Ogawa, president and COO of Canon U.S.A.. “We are delighted to continue working closely with Netflix to support filmmakers and their dedication to storytelling and creativity.”

Adobe’s Bedient added that the inclusion of Adobe — which have been used for Netflix’s “Stranger Things 2,” “Mindhunter,” and “Wild, Wild Country” — in Netflix PTA is a nod to Adobe’s commitment to quality post-production solutions.

“As film nerds and TV lovers, Netflix always keeps us on the edge of our seats,” he wrote. “From the company’s early days as a DVD rental-by-mail service to its current status as a go-to source for streaming entertainment globally, Netflix has forever changed the way content is created, distributed and consumed. Their dedication to innovation extends deeply to the creative community, as they continue to reimagine production and post workflows to let storytelling shine. At Adobe, this mission underscores everything we do.”
