Piracy, Cybersecurity Topics Slated for Content Protection Summit

During the July 24 Media & Entertainment Day at the Microsoft Conference Center in New York, studios, piracy experts and industry groups will all be featured presenters during the half-day Content Protection Summit East program, offering insights into content protection, privacy and cybersecurity.

Following opening remarks from Martin Porter, president of the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA) and executive director of the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA), attendees can look forward to the following program:

• In “Introducing the Trusted Partner Network (TPN),” Ben Stanbury, CDSA chairman and CTO of TPN, and Guy Finley, CDSA’s executive director and CEO of TPN, will offer details on the new, industry-wide content security initiative that helps prevent leaks, breaches and hacks of content prior to its intended release; the goals behind the collaboration; and the benefits content owners and vendors will gain from the program.

• Joel Sloss, senior program manager for Microsoft Azure and Lulu Zezza, production executive and founder of Three Zebra Solutions, will introduce the ways core media workloads move to the cloud, and underscore the security implications of a multi-tenant public cloud environment, in light of various asset classifications, content production, and delivery scenarios, in the presentation “Securing Entertainment Production in the Cloud (EPIC).”

• In the presentation “How to Talk Cybersecurity to Your C-Suite and Board,” Robert Fuenzalida, head of regional security of the Americas for LEGO Group, and Cyril Rickelton-Abdi, director of intellectual property protection for The Walt Disney Company, will offer insight into what leading M&E IT security executives have learned about communicating complicated security tech, and explaining cybersecurity ROI to non-technical executives.

• Harrie Tholen, VP of sales for NAGRA anti-piracy and NexGuard, will share how a combination of anti-piracy monitoring and real-time watermark detection can disrupt streaming pirate activity and stop piracy at the source, in the presentation “Real-World Tactics to Fight Illegal Sports Streaming.”

• “Streaming Video Alliance (SVA) Presents: Strategies for Protecting your OTT Content” will see Jason Thibeault, executive director of the Streaming Video Alliance, examine what service and content providers can do to protect their OTT services against piracy, using monitoring and take-down services, and watermarking optimized for streaming.

• The closing keynote of the day — “Defending Against Disinformation and Social Media Manipulation” — has Jonathon Morgan, CEO and founder of New Knowledge, looking at how adversaries are using paid advertisements and viral propaganda to attack entertainment brands, target journalists, and manipulate the media, and how media and entertainment organizations can protect themselves and their consumers.
