SHIFT Unveils ‘Creative Fund’ Short Film Grant (SCN)

SHIFT, the new brand for the combined software-as-a-service businesses of MediaSilo and Wiredrive, has launched a new grant program for up-and-coming filmmakers, providing up to $30,000 toward the completion of short films.

Dubbed the SHIFT Creative Fund, the grant also includes access to production space, consultation and use of SHIFT’s portfolio of services. For 2018, four narrative short films will be funded, beginning with “Pioneers,” an American pioneer-era thriller focused on the survival of two women settlers. Production of “Pioneers” — which is written by Los Angeles-based acting and writing duo Diana Irvine and Bianca Rusu, and produced by SLMBR PRTY Films — will begin soon.

“SHIFT is about changing the way creators approach their work, providing solutions that streamline the process of creating, sharing and securing valuable creative assets,” said SHIFT CEO Kai Pradel. “We’re privileged to empower the best creative minds working in media, entertainment and advertising. The SHIFT Creative Fund is our way of giving back to the industry, fostering the filmmakers of tomorrow and helping them tap into the expertise of the SHIFT client community.”

Applications for the three other grant slots will be accepted during the entire month of May, with selected applicants announced on June 30. Applications — which must include a script, production budget and schedule, and list of previous works — will be reviewed by a panel of judges from across the entertainment industry.

Winners will not only receive funding, but will work with SHIFT’s business partners — including writers, producers, distributors and post-production specialists — during each stage of the process. SHIFT will open up its Creator Space in Los Angeles to filmmakers, giving them access to editing bays, computer workstations and meeting rooms. Additionally, filmmakers will be given two weeks of access to SHIFT’s Airstream, a fully equipped mobile production trailer.

SHIFT will also host premiere screenings in Los Angeles for the finished films.
