Media Data, Asset Management Topics Headline Smart Content Summit East

The Media & Entertainment Services Alliances (MESA) Smart Content Summit to the Microsoft Technology Center in New York City March 8, offering the latest industry data initiatives and tools studios, broadcasters and all their business partners are employing to make content more identifiable and accessible.

Ted Farnsworth, chairman and CEO of MoviePass parent company Helios & Matheson Analytics, will deliver the keynote address — “Disruption in the Entertainment Industry; Monetizing the MoviePass Effect” — where he’ll share how data and analytics are driving the business behind the premier movie-theater subscription service.

Additional presentations at the Smart Content Summit East event include:

• Matt Turner, CTO of MarkLogic, kicks off the day with his data-centric presentation “Unlock the Power of Smart Content with the Right (Data) Pattern.”

• Longtime studio exec and data guru Thomas Stilling will stress the importance of a data-driven workplace, in the presentation “Developing a Culture Around Your Data Journey.”

• Daniel Goss, VP of innovation and experience for LiveTiles, will share his thoughts on how any digital transformation must also be an “Intelligent Transformation.”

• “Blockchain + Advertising = Transformation & Innovation,” or how blockchain can accomplish with transactions what the internet has done for communications, will be the topic presented by Babs Rangaiah, executive partner with IBM iX.

• Martin Wahl, principal program manager with Microsoft’s Azure Media Services, will share the latest AI developments offered via the Azure’s Cloud AI video indexing service, in the presentation “Video AI: What’s In Your Content?”

• An “AI Meets Media” discussion will see Emily Hopson-Hill, VP of services with Ooyala and
Wahl share real customer examples where AI has enhanced the content pipeline process, and opened up new monetization opportunities.

• IBM Watson Media’s Tim MacGregor will share his business’s latest cognitive capabilities and tools that help transform how M&E companies do business, in the presentation “Inside the Mind of Watson.”

• Liam Morrison, senior solutions architect with Amazon Web Services, will offer up the metadata-focused presentation “Practical Applications of Machine Learning for Image and Video in the Cloud.”

• HBO’s Laura Dawson (metadata analyst, production technology) and Yonah Levenson (manager of taxonomy) will look at how broadcast and media companies are dealing with multiple language standards today, in the presentation “Demystifying Language Metadata.”

• “Using Consumer ‘Watch Data’ to Grow Your OTT Service” sees NeuLion’s David Dwyer, VP of analytics development, and Chris Wagner, co-founder and EVP of marketplace strategy, look at the data behind successful direct-to-consumer OTT businesses.

• “How OBID Transforms Unique Identifiers,” a panel moderated by Will Kreth, executive director of the Entertainment ID Registry (EIDR), featuring Paul Mears, CEO of Copperline Media, Jane Clarke, CEO and managing director of the Coalition for Innovative Media Measurement (CIMM), and Brian Hughes, SVP of audience intelligence and strategy for Magna Global.

• Harold Geller, executive director of Ad-ID, Chris Pizzurro, head of sales and marketing for Canoe, and Julian Zilberbrand, EVP of audience science for Viacom, will take part in the panel “Smart Advertising: Advancing the Medium (for the Message).”

• Closing the Summit, Stilling and Josh Wiggins, chief commercial officer for GrayMeta, will discuss digital asset management in the panel “What’s your DAM(n) Problem?!?” with an introduction by Liam Morrison, senior solutions architect for Amazon Web Services.
