The Cloud and Data Round Out HITS Conference Sessions

Attendees at the May 25 “Holly-wired: Where IT and Entertainment Meet” event in Los Angeles will have four different innovation and technology showcase tracks to choose from at the end of the day.

Darren Ehlers, VP of product management, marketing and sales for Entertainment Partners, hopes his presentation gets due consideration.

To kick off the “Cloud, Compliance & Security” track at “Holly-wired,” Ehlers will be part of the panel “Compliance and Finding the Best Pad Thai in Town – Which Should Be Harder?” which tackles how entertainment companies are searching for and retrieving data, and how many are using EP Studio Hub to automatically collect production documents from Scenechronize.

“EP will be highlighting how our Scenechronize Studio Hub customers are seeing great value out of the permanent, searchable archive of their production documents,” Ehlers said. “In fact, studios are now seeing that many other departments beyond physical production want to be a part of the archive, both to find documents from production, and to store their own documents.”

He’ll be joined on the panel with Cameron Angeli, executive director of originals for Starz, Danielle Gerber, manager of production for AMC Networks, and Rachel Lynn, post coordinator for HBO.

Following that panel, James Hurrell, premier content operations manager for BBC Worldwide and Matt Thomas, head of sales for MediaSilo, will discuss “Anatomy of a Leak: Creating a Culture of Security at BBC Worldwide,” which will look at the infamous “Doctor Who” leak, and how BBC has responded since.

The “Cloud, Compliance & Security” track closes out with “Bringing Order to Chaos: Film Production Moves into the Future,” with John O’Sullivan, director of technical strategy for Microsoft and Lulu Zezza, physical production executive for New Regency, talking about how production companies build a unifying, hybrid, cloud-based motion picture workflow, while minimizing the duplication of information and enabling the implementation policies without disrupting the creative process.

Data and Disruption

In the track “Data, Disruption & Transformation,” it’s Matt Joe, VP and chief technology innovation officer for North America for Avanade kicking things off, with the presentation “How to Disrupt in Media & Entertainment Through Corporate Intrapreneurship.”

“Basically, I’ll be setting up the context we live in,” Joe said. “We have to execute a two-speed IT strategy where we maintain mission critical but need to light up and connect rapid inspiration and innovation to realize the results the business requires. I’ll share a couple ways to do this by activating intrapreneurship.”

He’ll be followed by “How to Stop Your Data from Driving You in the Wrong Direction,” a presentation from Ramon Chen, chief marketing officer for Reltio and Curt Pearlman, VP of solutions for Reltio, who’ll offer up a roadmap for IT and business teams to collaborate together using modern data management for reliable data at scale. The session will include a live demo of Reltio for Media and Entertainment.

The data track closes out with “Celebrating Women Who Are Leaders in Digital Disruption,” which sees industry-leading women share their experiences and best practices for navigating and transforming systems and processes. Ana Perez, manager of Cognizant Business Consulting, Sharon Braun, VP of global home entertainment technology solutions and interactive entertainment, for DC Entertainment and consumer products for Warner Bros., Mary Madill, director of data services for Disney, Renee McGinnis, SVP of IT solutions for Lionsgate, and Diane Pappas, chief digital officer and CEO of strategic planning for the Los Angeles Unified School District, will be on hand.

The May 25 gathering of the Hollywood IT community will see speakers from major studios, technology companies, distributors and more. Entertainment Partners and FilmTrack lead a list of event sponsors that also includes Avanade, Cognizant, Expert System Enterprise, MarkLogic, MediaSilo, Avere, Qumulo, Rovi, SalesForce and Slack.
