DADC NMS Helps Launch New Funimation Mobile App

By Chris Tribbey

Sony DADC New Media Solutions (NMS) has helped anime distributor Funimation Entertainment launch a redesigned mobile app for its ad-free anime streaming service, FunimationNow.

The new mobile app offers high-def content, ad-free, for subscribers and works on iOS, Android, Kindle and Windows 10 devices. The service offers new simulcasts, and a catalog of the distributor’s content, including “Dragon Ball Z,” “Attack on Titan,” “Fairy Tail,” “Cowboy Bebop,” “Assassination Classroom” and more.

“The introduction of the FunimationNow all-new mobile apps is our way of giving our loyal fans what they have always wanted and deserve: a high-quality, immersive, and seamless experience,” said Mike DuBoise, chief operating officer of Funimation. “Now featuring Airplay and Chromecast support, episode sync across devices and marathoning, among other great enhancements, we made sure to load our mobile experience with the features our fans have been asking for.”

Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV apps will be in the pipeline and should be available this summer. App updates for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Roku devices will also debut in May 2016, along with a redesigned Funimation Web site for streaming on laptops and desktops.

“The mobile launch of FunimationNow marks the unfolding of a new chapter for Funimation Entertainment, who has long been known as the industry leader in North American anime Blu-ray and DVD sales year after year,” the company said in a statement. “FunimationNow represents the next generation in subscription streaming services, which, when fully launched by summer 2016, will unify social engagement, e-commerce and video streaming into a single destination for fans, delivering a fully immersive and seamless experience.”

Sony DADC New Media Solutions and Funimation unveiled the app at this year’s CES.
