NSS Labs Partners with Fortinet, ThreatStream, Others (CDSA)

By Chris Tribbey

NSS Labs’ Cyber Advanced Warning System was first launched by the company in March, offering a real-time situational awareness platform for security professionals, allowing them to assess the exposure of assets. And just a month later, the service has picked up some huge support.

Fortinet, Trend Micro, Palo Alto Networks and ThreatStream — companies that offer products and services that specialize in advanced threat intelligence — have agreed to integrate NSS Labs’ Cyber Advanced Warning System into their offerings. The integrations will help provide malware analysis, threat actor attribution, actor history, geo-location and applications, using the Cyber Advanced Warning System.

“The integration of the NSS Cyber Advanced Warning System (CAWS) with these threat intelligence offerings provides our mutual clients with a way of quickly assessing and responding to threats,” said NSS CEO Vikram Phatak. “Customers will be able to proactively mitigate the risk caused by exploits favored by threat actors in ongoing campaigns proven capable of bypassing a client’s defenses.”

Fortinet will integrate the service into its FortiSandbox offering, which provides inspection of protocols and functions in one appliance, and will take malware samples from CAWS. Palo Alto Networks’ WildFire service — which gathers threat intelligence from more than 5,000 global enterprises and service providers, and analyzes more than 2.5 million samples a day — will use CAWS to increase the number of samples analyzed per day.

CAWS will also be integrated with ThreatStream-Optic (a threat intelligence platform) and Trend Micro Deep Discovery (a group of offerings that allows companies to detect and respond to targeted attacks and threats).

“The ability to assess, react and, ultimately, anticipate cyber threats in this new era of sophisticated targeted attacks is paramount for organizations regardless of industry,” said Kevin Simzer, SVP of Trend Micro. “The Cyber Advanced Warning System from NSS will serve as a powerful tool to help address and mitigate threats in virtually real-time. Trend Micro Deep Discovery will serve a key function to detect and respond breaches before damage can be inflicted, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate on this important initiative.”
