Digital Asset Symposium Hits L.A. (CDSA)

By Chris Tribbey

The annual Digital Asset Symposium (DAS) will be held May 15-16 in Hollywood, Calif., with content creators, post-production, systems designers, archives, asset managers and more coming together to discuss the life cycle of media assets, from content creation to rights management to asset preservation.

Presented by the Association of Moving Image Archivists, the two-day event will feature presentations covering everything from recognizing digital vulnerability, to collecting evidence following a breach, to curation in digital archive management.

“Since the beginning, DAS has been the place where projects, problems, and solutions are discussed within a real world framework,” said DAS program chair Tom Regal. “This year’s event continues to engage an even greater diversity of experts and industries. We want the entire community of technical and creative users to share what they are working on, the lessons learned, what challenges they’re facing now and what might be around the corner.”

Confirmed speakers include Laura Futrell, forensic consultant with the Santa Clara Police Department; Adam Grant, partner at Apert, Barr & Grant, APLC; rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin with Jewish Educational Media; Tom Coughlin with the Creative Storage and Entertainment Storage Alliance; John Snyder, production engineer with Panther Productions; Denise Evans with Miramax; Thomas Coleman, CTO of Film Track; and Eric Schwartz, partner with Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp.

Being held at the Linwood Dunn Theatre, 1313 Vine Street, DAS is being co-sponsored by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance, American Cinema Editors, Creative Storage Alliance, Law Enforcement Video Association, Iron Mountain Entertainment Services, Deluxe, LAC Group, Reflex Technologies, Digital Cinema Society and Broadcast Beat Magazine.
