The network security engineer is tasked with provisioning, replacing, and managing Cisco ASA firewalls. Ancillary firewall engineering tasks include planning, methodology documentation, event documentation, providing support for planning or troubleshooting to others throughout IBM dependent upon the functionality of the firewall under management or its configured state, and obtaining support from the firewall manufacturer as the need arises.

A prime candidate for this position will be passionate about IT Security. Have a strong networking and operating system background with a focus on devices in the Arista, Cisco/Nexus, Juniper families.

Candidates should also have an interest and understanding of cloud theory and architecture with knowledge of virtualization and container computing.

Candidates should have a desire to continue to focus on improving network security across the infrastructure with cutting edge protocols/technologies.

Key Responsibilities

This role will be essential in rounding out the Security Engineering team from a Network Security standpoint. This person will be tasked with being responsible for the main internal firewalls throughout the infrastructure, as well as improving upon the next gen firewall capabilities that will enable both the Cloud SOC, and Security Engineering to protect the infrastructure from bad actors.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Proficiency with Cisco ASA OS pre and post version 8.3 CLI and ASDM
Familiarity with Arista, Cisco, Cisco Nexus, Juniper Syntax
Proficiency with Networking Fundamentals
Proficiency with Network Troubleshooting Approaches and Tools
Proficiency with Change Management Systems
Proficiency with Contributing to Internal Engineering Documentation Repositories
Basic grasp of one or more of the following: Bash, PHP, Python (or VBscript for SecureCRT)
Familiarity with Linux and Linux tools
Proficiency with IPv6
Familiarity with Federal Networking Environment and Procedures
Proficiency with Centralized Ticketing and Inventory Tracking Systems
Networking, Next Gen Firewall experience, and general security industry experience will be required to fill this role.
