Licensing Counsel

Dolby

The Licensing Counsel will advise internal Dolby clients on a broad variety of legal issues, with a focus on intellectual property licensing.  The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial, detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills, capable of driving progress on key initiatives while maintaining good relations with stakeholders across the company.  Based in Dolby’s San Francisco office, this position reports to the Senior Director of Intellectual Property Transactions and Legal Affairs.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Counsel sales teams and sales management teams on a variety of licensing, intellectual property, commercial, and anti-trust law topics
  • Collaborate with sales, finance and business units, as necessary, to support revenue and process transactions in accordance with corporate policies
  • Partner with Dolby business units on legal issues related to new and existing licensing programs
  • Advise other Dolby teams on legal compliance, intellectual property protection, and adequate documentation of creative relationships
  • Draft, negotiate, and finalize legal agreements related to all of the foregoing, including varied license, service, software, and other types of agreements
  • Coordinate with Dolby’s privacy, tax, finance, trade compliance, operations, and other subject matter experts

Qualifications:

  • JD from a top-tier law school and bar membership
  • At least 3-4 years of transactional legal experience at a law firm and/or in-house
  • Expertise on issues related to the development and launch of intellectual property licensing programs in the technology space
  • Significant experience negotiating and drafting large intellectual property transactions
  • Comfortable as the primary legal adviser to multiple program and operational groups
  • Extremely high work quality and precision – able to resolve time sensitive issues with a high degree of precision and exhibit strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills
