HITS: Spring 2017: Mediamorph CEO, AWS Exec to Examine VOD, AI

The CEO of Mediamorph will share ideas for streamlining the content value chain, an artificial intelligence (AI) expert for Amazon Web Services will look at how AI is impacting media and entertainment, and a Sony Pictures SVP will offer ideas for better consumer experiences at HITS: Spring 2017, being held May 25 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Los Angeles.

Here’s a look at what they have on tap:

• The 3 p.m. presentation “Streamlining the Content Value Chain to Drive Revenue” has Mediamorph CEO Rob Gardos examining efforts by the industry to help content and distribution partners gain more control of content in order to maximize revenue and market share. In the face of the exponential growth of VOD content catalogs — and the growing demands of content consumers — he’ll are that the industry needs innovative leadership to bridge disparate content supply chains and enable data-driven management decisions.

• At 3:20 p.m. Gulliver Smithers, SVP of product and technology for Sony Pictures Entertainment, will give a presentation about “Creating the Always-On Consumer Experience,” focusing on how Sony’s Crackle VOD service is being published in three languages, across 20 countries, and made available on more than 20 consumer streaming devices. He’ll share how the team at Crackle has reacted to shifting consumer consumption patterns in recent years.

• The afternoon breakout session “No Monetization, Mo’ Problems: How AI Can Drive Revenue for OTT Services” has David Kulczar, senior offering manager for IBM Cloud Video looking at how streaming service providers can leverage advanced data, analytics and cognitive solutions to provide actionable insights. He’ll share the latest advancements in cognitive video solutions and more.

“The amount of multimedia content in all forms continues to reach new records every month and accessing this content has never been easier, however converting this into revenue has been stubbornly elusive,” Kulczar said. “IBM is laser focused on solving that challenge with new offerings focused on making certain that the right content reaches the right audience at the right time with the right branding and the right advertising to deliver the right experience.”

• David Pearson, head of AI Services business development for Amazon Web Services, will share use cases showing how AI can improve — and disrupt — the way media and entertainment companies manage their libraries and interact with consumers, in the afternoon breakout session “Recognizing the Impact of AI in M&E.”
