Smart Content, Content Protection, Cloud Production Together July 24 in NYC

Nearly 400 members of the East Coast media and entertainment community are set to visit the Microsoft Conference Center July 24 for the second annual Media & Entertainment Day, attending three different conference programs, including Smart Content Summit East (data, metadata and AI), Content Protection Summit East (content protection, privacy and cybersecurity) and Entertainment Production in the Cloud (EPIC).

Here’s a look at some of the highlights for each program:

Smart Content Summit East

• Keynote presentations from Ted Farnsworth, chairman and CEO of MoviePass parent Helios & Matheson Analytics and CEO of Zone Technologies, and Kim Jackson, founder and president of entertainment for SingularDTV highlight the program.

• In “Unlock the Power of Smart Content with the Right (Data) Pattern,” Matt Turner, CTO of MarkLogic, will share how data is being used today to make content smarter.

• Daniel Goss, VP of innovation and experience for LiveTiles, looks at the differences between digital and intelligent transformation in the workplace, in the presentation “From Digital Transformation to Intelligent Transformation.”

• The session “Video AI: What’s In Your Content?” has Martin Wahl, principal program manager for Microsoft’s Azure Media Services taking a deep dive into Azure’s Cloud AI video indexing service, which allows users to achieve automatic metadata curation from uploaded video content.

• Emily Hopson-Hill, VP of services for Ooyala, will walk attendees through the value of investments which create and connect horizontal platforms in the presentation “Survive and Thrive – The Value of the Connected Supply Chain.”

• “Inside the Mind of Watson” will have Tim MacGregor, worldwide technical sales for IBM Watson Media, sharing what Watson is capable of for media and entertainment companies looking to leverage the service’s expanding understanding and capabilities.

• Liam Morrison, senior solutions architect for Amazon Web Services, offers insight into practical applications of artificial intelligence in the cloud for those working with visual content in the presentation “Practical Applications of Machine Learning for Image and Video in the Cloud.”

• David Dwyer, VP of analytics development, and Chris Wagner, EVP of marketplace strategy and co-founder, with NeuLion, will share the latest regarding the company’s real-time “Watch Data” service.

• Jane Clarke, CEO and managing director of the Coalition for Innovative Media Measurement (CIMM) will moderate the panel “How OBID Transforms Unique Identifiers,” which includes Steve Davis, global product director of Kantar Media, Brian Hughes, SVP of audience intelligence and strategy for Magna Global, and Will Kreth, executive director of EIDR.

Content Protection Summit East

• In “Introducing the Trusted Partner Network (TPN),” Ben Stanbury, CDSA chairman and CTO of TPN, and Guy Finley, CDSA’s executive director and CEO of TPN, will offer details on the new, industry-wide content security initiative that helps prevent leaks, breaches and hacks of content prior to its intended release; the goals behind the collaboration; and the benefits content owners and vendors will gain from the program.

• Joel Sloss, senior program manager for Microsoft Azure and Lulu Zezza, production executive and founder of Three Zebra Solutions, will introduce the ways core media workloads move to the cloud, and underscore the security implications of a multi-tenant public cloud environment, in light of various asset classifications, content production, and delivery scenarios, in the presentation “Securing Entertainment Production in the Cloud (EPIC).”

• Harrie Tholen, VP of sales for NAGRA anti-piracy and NexGuard, will share how a combination of anti-piracy monitoring and real-time watermark detection can disrupt streaming pirate activity and stop piracy at the source, in the presentation “Real-World Tactics to Fight Illegal Sports Streaming.”

• The closing keynote of the day — “Defending Against Disinformation and Social Media Manipulation” — has Jonathon Morgan, CEO and founder of New Knowledge, looking at how adversaries are using paid advertisements and viral propaganda to attack entertainment brands, target journalists, and manipulate the media, and how media and entertainment organizations can protect themselves and their consumers.

Entertainment Production in the Cloud

• “The Cloud Creative Process: from Concept to Device to Screen,” with Scott Bounds, U.S. media and cable industry lead for Microsoft, exploring how the video creative process is being transformed via cloud collaboration tools and devices.

• “Cloud-Scale Rendering for Media,” with Joel Sloss, senior program manager for Microsoft Azure, leading a panel discussion on how to create cloud render farms on-demand, using any number of nodes to build animations and special effects, and how to efficiently utilize the cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments. Panelists include Bernie Behn, program manager for Avere, and Jeremy Smith, CTO of Jellyfish Pictures.

• “How Azure Can Help Content Creators,” a keynote presentation from Mark Miller, principal program manager for Microsoft Azure, looking at the investments and capabilities Microsoft’s Azure engineering team is bring to the industry.

• “Enabling Cloud workflows with AI,” with Craig Dwyer, senior director of Avids Global Center of Excellence, Emily Hopson-Hill, VP of services for Ooyala, and Martin Wahl, principal program manager of cloud, AI and cognitive services for Microsoft, discussing how to enable video workflows in the public cloud, globally and securely from across the world.
