HITS Spring: Execs to Tackle Advanced Production Technologies

At the annual HITS Spring: The Hollywood Innovation & Technology Summit in Los Angeles on May 17, one of the highlights of the day will be a high-level discussion around new production technologies.

The panel — “Advanced Technology in Production: Work in Progress” — will tackle the how new technologies have resulted in “unprecedented changes in the media and entertainment industry,” according to Bob Gold, founder and CEO of Bob Gold & Associates, who will moderate the panel.

“We’ve witnessed the entire disruption of the distribution model as content owners go directly to the consumer,” he said. “And at the same time are seeing huge disruption in making film and video content. Now any creator is able to make and deliver their content with lower risk and higher reward.”

The deployment of digital technologies of production, distribution and marketing has created an unprecedented direct-to-consumer relationship between content creators and consumers, and resulted in advances like computer-aided script writing, higher-resolution production, and instant, cloud-based editing and storage solutions. Patrick Baca, CTO of Entertainment Partners, Yves Bergquist, director of the Project on AI and Neuroscience in Media at the Entertainment at Technology Center at USC (ETC@USC), Melissa Lintinger, SVP of TV production finance at NBCUniversal, and James Toney, SVP of technology and innovation at 20th Century Fox, will all be on hand to discuss.

“On our panel we have a money person, an AI leader, and two tech innovators – at the studio and on the trusted partner side,” Gold said. “Ultimately our four panelists are all highly focused on getting greater efficiencies in production, marketing and distribution.”
