HITS Fall: Cast & Crew, Premiere Digital to Offer Data Insights for a Changing Hollywood

When more than 500 studio leaders and their technology partners gather Oct. 18 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles for the annual HITS Fall event, among the sessions they’ll be choosing from to end the day are a collection on the importance of data to productions today, and the new innovations available to make the most of the content already produced.

Here’s a look at what’s on tap during the “Data and Innovation” track of the HITS: Fall event:

• It’s as simple as this: Every business is becoming a digital business, every company must digitize to survive, and those in media and entertainment are no exemption. In the 4:15 p.m. presentation “Making Better Movies by Making Movies Better,” the top minds from tech-enabled payroll and production management solutions firm Cast & Crew will be on hand to argue that Hollywood needs to think about production as a business process.

And considering the digital methods available today, a production’s sub-processes can be transformed to be not only more efficient, but, essentially, make the final product better, using everything from metadata management and machine learning, to always-on connected devices and real-time collaboration services. Cast & Crew Entertainment Services’ CEO Eric Belcher, president John Berkley, product innovation director Ivana Malcolm, and production innovator Guillaume Aubuchon will be joined by Lee Wittlinger, director of Silver Lake Partners, in this unique presentation.

• Erik Anderson, founder and president of digital media services and solutions provider Premiere Digital will close the “Data and Innovation” portion of the day with the presentation “Innovative Software Wrangles Your Titles and Data,” a deeper dive into the company’s Storefront Management Software and the data behind it.

With millions in revenue on potential table, content owners may be foregoing the tools and data to take full advantage of the opportunities available. Anderson will share examples of how easy it can be to find lost revenue by managing an entire product catalog across multiple retailers, in one easy-to-use software package.

The 2017 edition of HITS Fall is presented by Cast & Crew, with sponsorship by Ooyala, Sohonet, Microsoft Azure, Premiere Digital, TiVo, LiveTiles and Veritone. Produced by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA), the event’s association partners include the Hollywood IT Society (HITS), the Smart Content Council, Women in Technology Hollywood (WiTH), the Los Angeles chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), and the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA).
