Cisco Promotes Goeckeler to EVP (MESA)

Cisco has promoted long-time company vet David Goeckeler to EVP of networking and security, giving him responsibility for more than $32 billion of the company’s tech business, overseeing a team of more than 20,000 engineers worldwide. “David’s vision to bring the intelligent network together with a robust security architecture has made a tremendous impact at Cisco,” said Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins. “The recent launch of our intent-based network under David’s leadership is a major milestone for the industry and just one example of his many achievements.”

Goeckeler previously served as SVP and GM networking and security for the company, where his responsibilities also included oversight of Cisco’s networking and security strategy, covering development operations for the company’s technology portfolio and strategic acquisitions.

A 17-year veteran of Cisco, Goeckeler previously led Cisco’s Security Business, where he helped mold Cisco’s threat-centric security strategy, and helped oversee the transition of the company’s business to a software-based model. During his tenure in that role, Cisco’s Security Group acquired and integrated several companies.

Goeckeler has also held engineering leadership roles in both the enterprise and service provider portions of the company. Before joining Cisco, he held engineering and senior management positions at Bell Laboratories and BellSouth Telecommunications.
