Microsoft Azure, AccuWeather Launch New Online Weather Tool (HITS)

AccuWeather and Microsoft continue their strong collaboration with the release of Winter Warrior, an online challenge between two individuals to prove who had the worst winter and recognize the true Winter Warrior. Through this engaging new online tool, users will most accurately and scientifically know if their childhood winters were snowier than friends or family as they compare winter weather impacts through an interactive display.

The Azure platform helps enable AccuWeather to analyze and uncover valuable weather relationships and deliver these insights at scale to a global audience. AccuWeather’s proprietary index is showcased in Winter Warrior, revealing personalized challenge results through the “Childhood Winter Warrior Index.”

“We are proud to work closely with Microsoft to launch Winter Warrior, an innovative online experience that showcases the power of AccuWeather’s weather data and analytics,” said Steven Smith, President of Digital Media at AccuWeather. “Through Winter Warrior, we are delivering fun, engaging new insights to users that reveal the true impact of winter weather during their childhood.”

AccuWeather has also developed a custom Impact Indicator(tm) that forecasts how impactful a weather event will be on a scale of 1 (no impact) to 10 (extreme impact). For example, 6″ of snow in Dallas, TX is a level 10, but only a level 5 in Steamboat Springs, CO.
