Fan TV Hits Apple TV, Roku

TiVo-owned content discovery platform Fan TV has been upgraded with new personalization and discovery features, and is now available on both Apple TV and Roku, TiVo announced Sept. 27.

Available as a free app for Android, iOS and Amazon Fire devices as well, Fan TV is used by several major pay TV providers for content discovery, allowing users to find content via searches by title, cast and other areas. The updated Fan TV integrates personalized, contextual recommendations and introduces a smart grid guide, in the hopes of making it easier for users to find content. TiVo promises that the upgrades allow Fan TV to remember user discovery activity to provide recommendations across live linear TV, VOD and OTT.

“TiVo strives to provide innovative discovery products and services for customers, enabling improved experiences for subscribers,” said Michael Hawkey, SVP and GM of the user experience business group at TiVo. “The updates to Fan TV will help subscribers find relevant content rapidly, while offering operators much needed flexibility across different networks and devices to mitigate trends toward unbundling and cord shaving.”

Fan TV — which TiVo is showing off at this week’s Cable-Tec Expo — allows operators to launch video services using their existing video delivery networks, and aggregates IP-delivered OTT content. It’s available as both an end-to-end software solution or as apps.
