Vubiquity Extends Virgin Media Agreement (MESA)

Vubiquity Sept. 21 shared that it’s inked a multi-year contract extension with Virgin Media, continuing to supply the media giant with on-demand content licensing and digital supply chain services for services across cable, broadband and TV Everywhere in both the U.K. and Ireland. Virgin Media will also look to Vubiquity to license movies from both major studios and U.K.-based independents for the transactional VOD service Virgin Media, with a total of 1,200 titles covered.

“Virgin Media has been a long-term customer of ours through all the iterations of the television to TV [Everywhere] markets,” said Nick Ruczaj, SVP of commercial at Vubiquity International. “We are extremely proud of this relationship as we continue to meet the demands of Virgin’s customers and their desire to watch great content, including latest-release movies and TV, on their own terms. Virgin Media’s fantastic VOD services enable people to do just that, offering a very attractive proposition in the current competitive telco and video landscape.”

On the digital content supply chain solutions front, Vubiquity will guarantee that digital assets and metadata for content are acquired, transcoded and published quickly for Virgin’s on-demand services. Fast turnaround of exclusives coming out of the U.S. will prove especially important in the deal, according to the companies.

“Vubiquity has been an established partner with Virgin for over 20 years,” said Paul Taylor, director of transactional and multi-screen TV at Virgin Media. “They negotiate market leading deals within the content licensing sector which delivers a great service to our viewing customers. Vubiquity also provides significant technology insight and support with digital supply chain services. This support enables Virgin Media to deliver expanded offerings in an agile and cost effective way.”
