Boxfish Launches API for Third Parties – Free Trial Available for S3 Members

By Lyndsey Schaefer

Today, 2nd Screen Society member Boxfish launched the Boxfish API so that third parties can have access to the platform that captures every spoken word on television in real time, transforming the navigation, discovery and monetization of TV.

“All of what we’ve been working on for the last 2.5 years captured TV, processed in real time and built apps and partnerships,” says Boxfish CEO and Founder Eoin Dowling. “Now everything is solid and has good data – so everyone should know about us. I’m looking forward to seeing what other ideas people have in for the data. All we do is focus on the data and allow everyone else to make use of it.”

To kick off the API, Boxfish is offering members of 2nd Screen Society 30 days of free access. To take advantage of this exclusive offer, go to http://www.boxfish.com/ and enter promo code: 2NDSCR

Over the course of its work, Boxfish has discovered interesting behavior about TV behavior and consumption. Using Boxfish’s platform, users can get live alerts on anything they’re interested in, from sports teams to celebrities to musicians – Boxfish will identify when that topic is being discussed as it happens on TV.

“We have the ability to search TV as a medium – it’s a simple, powerful discovery mechanism,” Dowling explains. “It gives good insight into users’ program viewing behavior as well as demographics by appending data to create a rich user set.”

Now, Dowling can’t wait to see what others in the 2nd screen ecosystem come up with using Boxfish’s API. He says that the platform would be best utilized by anyone who has a social element, because it creates a discovery layer on top of social that’s beyond the social chatter, and also brings people back to apps on a regular basis.

Boxfish currently captures close to 1,000 channels in the U.S. and is aiming to expand into the UK and Ireland later this year. For more information, go to www.boxfish.com
